What is this workshop about? We will make beautiful and unique set of Christmas Cards (5+ cards each participant) using lino carving and some simple tools for printing techniques.
Relief printmaking is one of the oldest techniques of reproduction images, invented in Asia, though nowadays it is a popular media for both professional artists and art enthusiasts around the world.
All materials are included, though participants are welcome to take their own paper (craft or toned paper, should be rather thick and without glossy finish), as well as sketches with ideas.
1) Introduction to relief print. Demo of carving.
2) Individual work of carving the printing elements.
3) Demo of hand-printing - 1 and 2 colors print.
4) Individual work of printing (5+) cards
5) Troubleshooting and questions.
Is it for me? This workshop involves working with sharp tools and ink-printing. If you have hand injury it's better to wait till you can operate carving tools safley.
Is experience necessary? This workshop is beginner-friendly.
How many sessions? 1 session, 3 hours.
How much? $48 + GST
Should I bring my art supplies? No, all art supplies will be provided.

Who's teaching this class? Ekaterina Vopiyashina is a graduate of Alberta University of the Arts, BFA with distinction, major in Printmaking. Ekaterina works in different printmaking techniques (intaglio, relief, silkscreen, lithography), her works have been exhibited in Canada, USA, Germany and Serbia. Ekaterina's fine prints won several prestigious awards among young printmaking artist, including New Impressions Printmaking Competition 2018, 3rd place in the Screen Printing category;
Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) 2018 Art Showcase, 1st place in Sculpture, Textile, Mixed Media, & Printmaking category;New Impressions Printmaking Competition 2017, 2nd place in the Intaglio/Etching category
